 What makes our preschool unique?

PXL_20210128_155621876.jpg

At St. Paul Preschool, we provide children a place to grow spiritually, physically, cognitively, and socially. Most importantly, children grow spiritually as they hear of their Savior’s love daily and learn the truths found in the Bible. Children grow physically and cognitively as they develop both large and small motor skills, visual and auditory skills, and as they discover the elements necessary for a successful school experience. Students grow emotionally as they develop self-awareness and a sense of self-worth, and as they learn to relate to other children and adults.

Our Mission:

Jesus said, "Let the little children come to me, and do not hinder them, for the kingdom of heaven belongs to such as these" (Matthew 19:14).

Our Vision:

The central purpose of St. Paul Evangelical Lutheran Preschool is to share the good news of Jesus Christ with young children and their families.

Our Learning Goals:

  • Nurture a love of life-long learning

  • Develop children’s social and emotional skills through interactions with others

  • Develop physical skills through gross and fine motor experiences

  • Develop cognitive skills through age-appropriate and hands-on activities

  • Prepare children for future school experiences

St. Paul Ev. Lutheran Preschool Curriculum

It is not too early to teach your child about their Savior’s love for them! At St. Paul Preschool, your child will be taught about God’s great love for them every day. All aspects of the curriculum reflect the teachings of the Bible.

Though the Preschool schedule is flexible, each session includes God’s Word in the form of a Bible story, songs, finger plays, and prayers. Additional activities include Concept Learning Time, Story Time, Large Motor Skills Time, Art, Calendar Time, Snack Time, and Music Time.

The most important part of each day is the Bible lesson. The children will hear each day that God loves them, and that Jesus died for their sins. He not only died, but he rose again, and because he rose, we will have the free gift of Heaven someday with him! We do acts of kindness to each other to show how much we love Jesus. Showing love to each other is a way of saying “Thank you” to Jesus for dying for us. We will also talk a lot about letting our light shine for Jesus.
The program is a very academic-based preschool. The goal is to have the children academically and emotionally ready for 5K when the time comes.

Typically, by the end of 3K the children know all their colors, shapes, numbers, and most of their letters and letter sounds. In 4K the children know 100% of the letters and sounds by mid-year so they can begin sounding out short words.

3K does not emphasize a lot of writing, as their fine motor skills are just developing. Correct crayon/pencil hold and scissors hold is strongly enforced from day one so they learn to do it correctly. In 4K they do work on correctly forming letters and numbers as they learn to write their name, numbers, and other letters.

We also do one planned art project most days. We do have a calendar that will tell you the theme of the day. The project will go along with the theme. Doing art projects helps children learn how to color, paint, cut, & glue correctly. It also helps children learn to be expressive in the different mediums that we use. They also have “open-ended” projects where they can create whatever they want.

Beginning math skills is also a very important part of our day. We will do counting, patterning, & comparing during our calendar time as well as documenting the daily weather. We also do other mathematical- type skills during learning center time. Learning Centers are documented each day, so parents can see what their child is learning and what they need work on.

We will also go outside or in the gym each day. During this time, we will work on gross motor skills, such as ball skills, hopping, galloping, skipping, spatial orientation, as well as playing games and doing group musical activities with bean bags, the parachute and rhythm sticks.

We also do fun music activities in which child can express themselves through dance, use of instruments, and singing.
